Ashburton Antics from Valmai
- January 2005
Ashburton and surrounding districts have much for visitors and locals over the next few months with summer activities.
At Lake Hood , Aquafest, the water gala event, will be held on Feb.19th with fun, food and water frolics for all ages.
A rather cool summer so far, has disappointed campers and holidayers, and cut the numbers , on a particularly wet day, to Chertsey, a small district some 20 ks N of Ashburton, to their inaugural “Woolly Munchers” fine wine and lamb Fest, held on 8th January. However, 2000 people braved the rain and enthused over the event regardless. The organizers have had so much positive feedback that they promise it will become an annual event, promoting all the district and NZ has to offer. So, Watch This Space 2006 !
On 30/1/05, the annual Concert in the park will take place with interesting entertainment.
Some February events : 19/02….Aquafest
19-20th /02 …Caravan and outdoor Extravaganza
25-27 /02 Rakaia Salmon fishing contest
In April, Ashburton spinners and Weavers host the National Creative Fibre Fest, Fibre Time. For anyone interested in and appreciating different fibres this will be one event not to miss.
Schools resume near the end of January and it’s “Murphy’s Law” that we’ll get the hottest weather then!
So, regards to all readers
