Hello to all
Christmas is fast approaching, and shops, businesses, churches, and families are gearing up for the season.
A Kiwi Christmas can be puzzling for our friends from colder parts where December 25 th falls mid- winter. Here , with any luck, the day can be hot, sunny and one to spend outdoors.
As far as food goes ,for many homes the traditional roast turkey or often lamb, with all the trimmings, is the way to go-new peas, carrots, salads, etc. pavlova , fresh fruit salad,-raspberries, strawberries (they will be in season) in favour of the hot Christmas pudding. But for others, the option is a BBQ, picnic lunch, cold meats and salads and if camping, the easier the better!
I have a wonderful book about the "Kiwi Night Before Christmas"- a parody on the traditional one. Here the family are at the bach ( holiday house). Father Christmas, dressed in black singlet, shorts, gumboots, and complete with dog, arrives on a tractor and trailer pulled by woolly sheep. He still possesses the magical powers and fulfills all children's dreams before he flies off into the night sky, calling out "Kia Ora to all, and good on ' ya mate."
Christmas, being a time for church, family and holiday, organizations work hard to entertain and accommodate any visitors in the region.
No different here at Keppoch - Ken and I extend every visitor a warm friendly welcome to our home.
So, Merry Christmas and Good wishes for 2005
Regards, Valmai
