Not a lot other than things to do with
snow and skiing at MTHutt Skifield this time. But the warm weather
is getting closer, now past the shortest day.
Some hardy souls braved the elements and took a dive in Lake
Hood to celebrate the winter soltice..though not the coldest
day, the swimmers found the water temperatures very bracing.Around
the country, the shortest day sees people of all ages trying
out their bravery by getting wet in sea, pool or lake.
However, sipping spiced wine is a better bet for us on that
day!
In my garden, some hardy camellias are opening and the spring
bulbs aren't far away. One large wattle is giving us a slash
of colour, and that is encouraging.
The mountains (the Southern Alps) look absolutely wonderful
from our part of the country at this time of the year. With
MidCanterbury being so flat the mountains provide a very visible
backdrop to the farming country and towns and, from the time
one leaves the Christchurch International Airport after flying
over the breathtaking sight of them from above, there is an almost
uninterupted view of them all through the Canterbury Plains.
